My student love this practice game! Students work in pairs to solve problems on small colored pieces of paper. As the teacher rotates the room, pairs can either ask for a hint or ask to check their answer and receive the next problem, thereby accumulating papers in their color. When time's up, students may ball up each paper to make a shot at the trash can - and the group with the most of their color in the trash can is the winner!
The topic of this particular game is solving quadratic equations (all of which can be solved by factoring), with each problem increasing in difficulty, working up to needing to factor out a GCF or factor with a leading coefficient other than 1.
